New 21st Century Voter Tools Coming to Navajo County
Navajo County,AZ - August 27, 2012 —Voters in Navajo County received new voter tools to help them make more informed balloting decisions. Navajo County has launched a new Web-based sample ballot that will enable all voters, including those with disabilities, to access an interactive, sample ballot. The system called “LiveBallot”, is being deployed in the August Primary election and will be available on the Navajo County Recorder’s Web site starting August 27th.
The system was paid for by a grant from the Arizona Secretary of State and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). DHHS provided the grant funding due to the ability for a blind or reading impaired voter to access their voter specific sample ballot online, listen to the candidate names and referendum, mark their selections independently, and print their sample ballot as a reference sheet.
Navajo County Recorder Laurette Justman stated, "We are excited that Navajo County received this grant to assist our voters, including those with disabilities, to provide easier access to their balloting information. We encourage all candidates to use the LiveBallot tool by coming to our County Recorder’s Web site at NavajoCountyAz.gov/recorder or visit the site directly at az.liveballot.com/navajo."
