Navajo County Mourns Fallen Soldier

Posted: Feb 26, 2013 By: Hunter Moore

HOLBROOK, AZ — Navajo County is extremely saddened to join with the rest of Arizona as we mourn the loss of one of our fallen heroes. Sgt. Jonathon D. Davis of the United States Marine Corp was recently killed in action in Afghanistan. We would like to express our condolences to the family, friends, members of the Kayenta community and the Navajo Nation as we mourn the loss of Sgt. Davis.

Chairman Jonathan M. Nez commented on the unfortunate news, “Despite our best efforts, words fail to convey the depth and power of our gratitude for the laying down of a life for our country. We appreciate the spirit of service, and love, that Sgt. Davis demonstrated as he made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms that we so humbly enjoy,” said Nez. “We wish to express our deepest sympathy to Sgt. Davis’s family and loved ones. All of Navajo County is saddened by their loss.”

Navajo County will follow the example of the State of Arizona, and the Navajo Nation, by flying flags at half-mast to honor Sgt. Davis’s life and service to the country.

Supervisor Jesse Thompson also added his appreciation, “We grieve with the family and friends of Sgt. Davis, but we share in the hope that Sgt. Davis’s family will be able find solace and comfort in the arms and support of their community. Sgt. Davis’s example as a willing defender of our country and as ambassador of the Navajo people is a powerful example of self-sacrifice and devotion to a higher cause, and all of Navajo County thanks him for his honor and sacrifice as a member of our armed services.”
