Navajo County Emergency Management
Multi-Hazard Mitigation
At the May 22, 2012 regularly scheduled meeting the Navajo County Board of Supervisors
approved the Final Draft of the 2011 Navajo County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan.
A planning team comprised of representatives from the cities towns of Navajo County
met on a regular basis to participate in a county-wide multi-hazard mitigation planning
process.
The Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMAK2K) requires all local, county, tribal
and state governments to have a FEMA approved hazard mitigation plan in order to
be eligible for certain federal hazard mitigation grant funding. This plan focuses
on the area’s most threatening hazards and provides a strategy to reduce or eliminate
the risk from those hazards to the people and property of Navajo County.
The final draft of the Navajo County Multi Hazard Mitigation Plan has been deemed
approvable and is in the final stages of acceptance by FEMA. The plan may be viewed
