Navajo County Emergency Management

Draft Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan Available for Comment

Posted September 8, 2011

A planning team comprised of representatives from the cities and towns of Navajo County have been meeting regularly to participate in a county-wide hazard mitigation planning process. The purpose of this process is to develop a county-wide multi-hazard mitigation plan for Navajo County inclusive of the incorporated cities and towns according to The Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA2K).

The DMA2K requires all local, county, tribal and state governments to have a FEMA approved hazard mitigation plan in order to be eligible for certain federal hazard mitigation grant funding. This plan focuses on the area’s most threatening hazards and provides a strategy to reduce or eliminate the risk from those hazards to the people and property of Navajo County.

The first draft of the county-wide Hazard Mitigation Plan for Navajo County has been completed and is ready for public viewing and comment. The Plan may be viewed in hard copy format at:

Navajo County Governmental Complex
Administration/Board of Supervisors
100 E. Code Talker’s Drive
Holbrook, Arizona 86025
Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday

The Plan can also be viewed at the following link: Navajo County Multi Juris Haz Mit Plan_DRAFT_2011-08-26

Comments must be provided no later than September 12, 2011 by the close of business.
