The Public Health Services District provides services to help to protect the entire
community from illness or injury. Services aim to keep citizens well, as opposed
to servicing a person after they become ill. Better health through community partnerships
is the goal of the Navajo County Public Health Services District.
We provide a wide variety of services to the public, many of them free of charge.
Environmental Health inspects food establishments, handles health hazard complaints,
and permits food establishments for operation. The nursing program immunizes children
and adults, provides family planning, and test for a variety of diseases. Women,
Infant, and Children (WIC) provides no cost food to people who qualify, information
on nutrition, and education on breastfeeding and nutrition. The Tobacco Prevention
and Education program provides youth education on dangers of tobacco use, youth
and adult quit groups, and community education on dangers of smoking. The Prenatal
Block Grant Program provides community education programs, develops community networks,
and a link to other health care services. Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP)
provides therapies and other related services, interim service coordination, and
case management. The Public Health Physical Activity Program provides Promoting
Lifetime Activity for Youth (P.L.A.Y.), heart smart tips, education on cardiovascular
disease, preventive measures of heart disease, and a variety of physical activity
programs, events, and activities. Community Nutrition Program provides education
to 2nd grade students and their parents about proper nutrition/diet.
