The LCR MOM information assessment to support natural resources management planning
in the Little Colorado River Watershed.
In 1996, a broad based group of organizations from within the Little Colorado River
(LCR) Watershed decided to cooperate in developing an LCR Multi Objective Management
Program (LCR MOM). The mission of the program is to develop cooperative programs
that highlight projects within the Watershed, and encourage new projects for economic
and environmental improvements.
An initial effort by the LCR MOM was to develop an information assessment for the
Watershed. The information assessment for the Little Colorado River Watershed included
development of an assessment of literature and data in eight issue areas as follows:
-
Cultural Economic Development
-
Recreation
-
Erosion / Sediment Management
-
Water Quality / Quantity
-
Wildlife Habitat
-
Education
The electronic information provided includes literature and data on the above eight
issue areas. Literature and data are provided in separate files.
The assessment of science and management literature is focused in two areas:
-
Published literature from National and Regional electronic databases and libraries.
-
Non-published literature from Federal and State Agencies, Native American Tribal
Governments, Natural resource organization, etc.
Examples of literature databases searched includes the Biological and Agricultural
index, Congressional Libraries (Lexis-Nexus), GEO Ref, Life Sciences, Bibliography
of Native North Americans, etc. Information is restricted to science and literature
that focuses specifically on the LCR Watershed. As such, Native American literature
is dominated by studies on lands of the Navajo, Hope and Zuni Nations.
Although the study focus was to document only literature existence and location,
the project Did result in development of a small physical library. Many of the library
holding are unique and valuable, in that they are agency reports that have not been
published, or have extremely limited circulation.
The current literature reference exceeds 2500 listings. Of these, over 1400 physical
documents are housed in a LCR MOM Library located in the Department of Public Works,
Navajo County Offices, Holbrook, Az. You are invited to visit the library for any
special reference needs.
The assessment of literature in which data is included focused on Native American,
federal and state agency resource offices in the Southwest, and specifically those
within the LCR Watershed.
Existing data files included in the LCR MOM date assessment include:
-
Digital data, tables on dbf format in Microsoft Excel or Access.
-
Gis coverage's in ARC View format.
-
Electronic documents and bibliographies.
-
World Wide Web and meta data pointers on the LCR Watershed.
We hope the LCR MOM literature and data files will be useful to you in your project
or area of interest. We encourage you to also visit LCR MOM's Web Page with the
