Things You Need

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship (hospital certificates are not acceptable) - Submit a certified birth certificate or a previous U.S. passport.
  • Proof of Identity - Current driver's license; previous or current passport book or passport card; Certificate of Naturalization; Certificate of Citizenship; military identification; or federal, state, or government employee identification card.
  • Recent Color Passport Photos - Photo needs to be 2 inches by 2 inches.
  • Passport Processing Fees (see fees listed below) - Make application fee payable to "Department of State" in the form of a money order, cashier's check, or personal check; make execution fee payable to "Clerk of the Court" in the form of a money order, cashier's check, or cash (we do not accept personal checks). There is an additional fee of $60 for expedited service payable to the "Department of State". Routine processing takes 10 to 16 weeks* to process.
  • The U.S. Passport Book and U.S. Passport Card for adults are valid for ten years. Passports for minors under the age of 16 are valid for 5 years.
  • The U.S. Passport is no longer used for just travel anymore. It serves as proof of U.S. citizenship and identity for important purposes such as work authorization and eligibility for many Federal benefits.
  • Check with your local Post Office.
  • *Mailing times are not included in processing times. Processing times only include the time your application is at one of our passport agencies or centers. The total time to get your passport includes both processing and mailing times. It may take up to 2 weeks for applications to arrive by mail at a passport agency or center, and up to 2 weeks for you to receive a completed passport in the mail after we print it. Consider the total time it will take to receive your passport when you are booking travel.

Passport Processing Fees

  • Make application fee payable to "Department of State"
  • Make execution fee payable to the facility where you apply.
  • Expedited service costs an additional $60.00

Renew by Mail

Renew by mail if you respond "Yes" to all statements below about your most recent passport:

    •  I can submit it with my application.
    •  It is not damaged (other than normal wear and tear).
    •  I have never reported it lost or stolen.
    • It was issued within the last 15 years.
    • It was issued when I was age 16 or older.
    • It was issued in my current name, or I can provide another document such as a marriage certificate or divorce decree that is evidence of my name change.
    • It was not limited to less than the normal 10-year period of validity for an adult passport due to multiple passport thefts or losses, or due to issues with passport damage or mutilation. 

Apply in Person

Apply in person if you respond "Yes" to at least one of the following statements:

  •  I am applying for my first U.S. passport.
  •  I am applying with my child who is under age 16.
  •  My previous U.S. passport was issued when I was under age 16.
  •  My previous U.S. passport was lost, stolen, or damaged.
  •  My previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago.
