Honorable Susie Nelson
Susie Nelson is the Justice of the Peace at the Kayenta Justice Court, which is located on the Navajo reservation, gateway to the beautiful Monument Valley. Judge Nelson was appointed to the bench in 2007, by the Navajo County Board of Supervisors, when the former Judge Evelyne E Bradley retired. Judge Nelson started as a court clerk to Judge Bradley in 1999. Prior employment includes Navajo Nation Judicial District in Kayenta for 8 years.
The Kayenta Justice Court handles misdemeanor criminal cases, civil traffic, felony initial appearances and preliminary hearings, orders of protection/harassment, evictions, weddings, and civil matters of $10,000 or less. The Precinct Four Justice Court serves the communities of Kayenta, Shonto, Chilchinbito, Black Mesa, Forest Lake, Hard Rock, Low Mountain, Pinon, Tachee/Blue Gap, Whippoorwill.
