Injury Prevention

Our mission is to reduce and eliminate intentional and unintentional deaths and injuries in Navajo County. We do this through the following strategies:

  • Partner with certified local community partners to offer car seat educational courses, car seat checks, and car seats—all free to those who qualify.
  • Partner with home visitation programs, the women, infants, and children program (WIC), and other community partners to
    • Identify children who don't have safe sleep environments.
    • Provide portable cribs and safe sleep education to reduce the amount of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) cases.
  • Offer free educational courses on home safety, poison prevention, fire safety and safe sleep.
  • Offer the Battle of the Belts Program that addresses adolescent motor vehicle safety and seat belt usage rates. This is done through peer-led groups in the local high schools.
  • Coordinate and facilitate multidisciplinary fatality reviews of child, overdose, and suicide deaths.
